Back-to-Back: PLL Championship Game Recap
Sunday’s PLL championship game was exactly what lacrosse fans could have hoped for, concluding the intense 2-week season with a flourish. In a game that had some wild swings, the Whipsnakes were able to battle their way to a 12-6 victory over Chaos and a second-straight PLL championship.
After jumping to an early 2-0 lead and seemingly setting the stage for the rest of the game, the Whipsnakes struggled heavily for the rest of the first half and the third quarter and played over 20 minutes without scoring a single goal. Giving up 5 unanswered to Chaos and going into the third quarter down 3-6, the Whips needed an incredibly gritty and efficient offensive performance to get back on top – and they delivered. Zed Williams took control of the quarter, scoring 4 goals in 2 minutes and then tacking on two more goals before the end of the game. Epoch Athlete Matt Rambo jumped in on the action too, notching three assists before scoring a goal of his own. In fact, the Whipsnakes scored 9 unanswered goals in the fourth quarter, powering their way to a back-to-back championship trophy and undefeated season.
The road to the championship was not without its difficulties for the Whipsnakes – including a tough overtime semifinal win to secure their spot – and Chaos were not an easy opponent either, given that the playoffs ignited the best lacrosse best performances of their season especially out of players like Josh Byrne. But the Whips proved their grit, depth, and determination yet again Sunday night to earn their crown and conclude the 2020 Championship Series.
